ENVIRONMENT IMPACT

At The Hotel, we are fully committed to reducing our environmental impact and promoting sustainable practices. The Hotel is a proud member of the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance since 2023. We take pride in our environmental certifications, including the prestigious Green Key certification since 2019, BREEAM certification since 2022, and the Good Food certification in 2022, highlighting our dedication to sustainable operations and responsible food practices.

We have integrated green metrics into our performance measures, ensuring that environmental considerations are at the forefront of our operations. To minimize energy waste, our engineering installations are equipped with energy recovery systems, maximizing efficiency and reducing our carbon footprint. With these initiatives, we strive to create a more eco-friendly and sustainable future for our guests and the planet.

OUR ACTIONS

We are proud to share our commitment to electricity savings. We are powered by 100% green electricity, derived from renewable sources, ensuring a cleaner and greener energy supply. To further reduce our carbon footprint, we have implemented energy-efficient LED lighting throughout 80% of our hotel, illuminating spaces while minimizing energy consumption.

We have taken significant steps to support sustainable transportation options. Our parking facility features six electric vehicle charging stations, encouraging guests to choose eco-friendly transportation during their stay. Additionally, our convenient location offers easy access to public transportation, with a mere three-minute walk to nearby transit options. By providing these sustainable alternatives, we strive to minimize CO2 emissions and contribute to a greener future for our guests and the environment.

To encourage responsible water usage, we provide in-room collaterals that kindly request guests to skip housekeeping services when not needed and to reuse their towels during their stay. These small actions can make a significant impact on water conservation. Furthermore, we have implemented a sophisticated system to quickly detect and localize any leaks within our premises, enabling us to take immediate action and minimize water waste. With these initiatives, we aim to promote sustainable water management and contribute to the preservation of this precious resource.

We are proud to share that 90% of the products used for cleaning are chemical-free, ensuring a healthier and greener environment for everyone. To do so, we utilize advanced cleaning systems such as Raypath and Enozo, which are 0 chemical systems, further reducing our impact on the environment. To empower our guests to participate in our sustainability efforts, we offer the option to skip housekeeping services and reuse towels, reducing water and energy consumption.

To reduce food waste, we have implemented effective measures such as eliminating buffets for meetings with less than 20 people, opting for personalized and seasonal recipes that reduce excess food. Our innovative Winnow system allows us to precisely measure and categorize waste food, enabling us to identify areas for improvement and make informed decisions. We are proud to partner with 'Too Good To Go' to distribute any excess food, ensuring it does not go to waste. Throughout the hotel, we have implemented selective waste sorting bins, making it convenient for guests and staff to participate in our sustainable waste management efforts. Additionally, in our bathrooms, we have installed big pumps for soap and shampoo, minimizing single-use plastic waste.

2024 GOALS

  • Investing in smarter room facilities
  • Becoming the largest capacity for fast charging stations in Brussels
  • Embracing reusable water bottles and water fountains at all events
  • Reducing food waste by 25%

SOCIAL IMPACT

At The Hotel, we believe that sustainability goes beyond environmental practices. We are committed to making a positive social impact in our local communities and beyond. Through various initiatives and partnerships, we strive to create meaningful change and contribute to a better world. From supporting charitable organizations and fundraising events to empowering our employees and promoting inclusivity, we are dedicated to making a difference. Join us in our journey towards a more sustainable and socially responsible future.

OUR ACTIONS

We value the feedback and experiences of our guests, which is why we diligently manage guest reviews, ensuring they are answered, analyzed, and corrective actions are promptly implemented. To maintain our high standards, we conduct annual mystery guest visits to assess our services and make continuous improvements. The safety and well-being of our guests are paramount, which is why we have in-house security personnel available 24/7. Our dedicated team receives regular training on GDPR compliance, fire safety protocols, and emergency response procedures. We believe in putting the guest at the center of our operations, which is why all our employees undergo reverse thinking training to enhance their guest-centric approach. To incentivize excellence, our employees are rewarded based on guests' review scores. We conduct regular fire evacuation exercises to ensure the preparedness of our guests and employees, and our fire alarm monitoring center undergoes weekly testing for optimal safety.

At The Hotel, we strive to create an attractive and equal workplace where every employee feels valued and supported. We embrace diversity and promote inclusivity, fostering a collaborative and respectful environment. Continuous learning and development are at the core of our culture, as we offer various trainings throughout the year, both internally and in partnership with Horeca formation, covering topics such as burnout prevention, ergonomics, and well-being. We believe in providing equal opportunities for all, which is why we have introduced a special training program for employees over 45 years old. To prioritize the well-being of our team, we offer free access to a partner's fitness room and reimburse 100% of employee transportation expenses. We encourage sustainable commuting by providing bikes for staff and reimbursing bicycle repairs. As part of our commitment to sustainability, we offer eco-cheques worth 250 euros per year. Celebrating our team's achievements and milestones is important to us, and we organize various events and celebrations throughout the year, including staff parties, St. Nicolas' day, Easter, Christmas, and recognition of seniority and birthdays. We prioritize the health and nourishment of our employees by providing healthy snacks such as fruits and soups. To ensure employee satisfaction and feedback, we conduct an employee satisfaction survey twice a year. At The Hotel, we are dedicated to creating a fulfilling and inclusive workplace where our team members can thrive and contribute to our shared success.

At The Hotel, we strive to have a positive impact on local communities. Here's how:

Environmental sustainability: Through our partnership with Drip Drop, every umbrella hired contributes to our tree planting initiative, promoting environmental sustainability. We prioritise restitution by donating old, working computers to the HUBU association for redistribution to orphanages and youth training centres. We also donated more than 600 items of clothing to the 'La Poudrière' association.

Supporting vulnerable people: Our collaboration with TADA, a not-for-profit organisation, enables us to make a significant difference to the lives of vulnerable children. We are offering an opportunity to redistribute food leftovers to the local food bank. We also actively participate in fundraising events such as the Kick Cancer Race, supporting crucial causes in the fight against cancer. In addition, we have partnered with the UCM to provide Christmas gifts to children hospitalised at the Lennox Centre. We also lent our support to Make-A-Wish Belgium to help sick children, supported the ASBL Sauvez mon Enfant, and took part in the charity gala of the Ligue Handisport Francophone. To support Ukraine, we organised galas and charity dinners to help people in need. To show our support, we offered free rooms to Ukrainian refugees.

Locally sourced: When it comes to our food and drink offer, we partner with local producers such as Bigh, an aquaponics farm 2km away, Buddy Buddy for praline chocolate and peanut butter (just 156m from our door), Yogurt Kitchen (800m away) for 100% organic yoghurt, and Nectar & Co (55km away) for the highest quality honey. In addition, our collaboration with Urbea Leaf, a supplier of aromatic herbs located 2 km from the hotel, allows us to maintain our commitment to supporting local businesses. We have a new partnership with La Ferme de Nos Pilifs for their biscuits, located just 10km from the hotel. This extraordinary place employs 145 people with special needs.

By strengthening our links with the community and promoting sustainable practices, we are committed to making a positive impact.
